Canada’s 6 new immigration programs and their requirements
Now Canada has introduced more tracks to essential workers, international students, and French speakers who are living in the country. Here details and requirements are available for six short-term Canadian immigration plans. A total of 90,000 candidates will be able to benefit from these programs in total. The new immigration programs are meant for candidates who are already residing in Canada on temporary visas. These all tracks are:
- International student graduates (40,000 applications allowed)
- Essential workers in healthcare (20,000 applications allowed)
- Essential workers in other occupations (30,000 applications allowed)
- French-speaking international student graduates (unlimited applications allowed)
- French-speaking essential workers in healthcare (unlimited applications allowed)
- French-speaking essential workers in other occupations (unlimited applications allowed)
Immigration, Refugee, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has opened a pathway to 90,000 essential workers and international student graduates on temporary status in Canada on 6 May 2021. Furthermore, 3 programs are available that will attract an unlimited number of potential French speakers. These programs apply to eligible temporary residents who need to immigrate to any Canadian province or territory other than Quebec. These programs are available for a shorter time period until 5 November 2021 or until the intake cap is reached. In these programs, 40 eligible healthcare occupations, plus an additional 95 eligible occupations for other essential workers across a range of industries for example construction, agriculture, and sales are available.
Candidates can add their family members/dependents on their applications, in any case, whether they are in Canada or not. Each name on the application should be admissible to Canada, meaning they have to fulfill the general criminality and medical criteria. The following given information is eligibility criteria for every 6 new programs:
1- Eligibility requirements for “International Student Graduates“
Canada is looking to collect 40,000 recent international student graduates as permanent residents.
Education
To qualify, the candidates are required to have:
- graduated from a post-secondary Designated Learning Institution (DLI) after Jan 2017, and before his case submission. He also has to hold a job in Canada at the time of his application submission. Self-employed work is not eligible.
The candidate’s studies may have been completed at a DLI in Quebec, but he has to be applying to stay in any other province. In routine, the courses must not be shorter than 8 months in time. From a time period point of view, an attestation of Vocational Specialization (AVS) or Diploma of Vocational Studies (DVS), each course of study must be a minimum of 900 hours in the time period and the combined program of study must be a minimum of 1800 hours.
Language proficiency
Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 5 in English or French is required in all 4 (reading, writing, speaking, and listening) language skills.
2- Eligibility requirements for “Essential Worker in Healthcare”
In 2021, International Refugees and Citizenship Canada are looking to admit at least 20,000 new permanent residents, via essential workers in the healthcare stream.
General requirements
In most economic-class immigration programs, the candidate needs to have skilled work experience to participate- however this is not the case for this program, the candidate just required to have 1 year of Canadian experience in an eligible occupation.
This track holds up to 40 eligible occupations, which include nurses, physicians, and pharmacists. This category also includes some social work-related occupations such as social workers, social and community service workers as well as domestic helpers. Veterinarians and veterinary technicians are not qualified for this route.
Work experience
The candidate is required to have a minimum of 12 months of eligible full-time work experience (1,560 hours) within the 3 years leading up to his application date, he has to be employed in any occupation at the time of case submission. Important to remember is that he cannot be self-employed unless he is a medical doctor in a fee-for-service with a health authority.
Language proficiency
Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 4 in English or French is required in all 4 (reading, writing, speaking, and listening) language skills. Finally, he has to be destined for any Canadian province or territory other than Quebec.

3- Essential workers in other occupations
Canada will admit up to 30,000 new permanent residents via this short-term program. The candidate will need to have work experience in essential occupations across all National Occupation Classification (NOC) skill levels. This track holds up to 95 eligible occupations, such as retail salespersons, general farm workers, and construction trades laborers, among others.
Work expreience
The candidate needs a minimum of one year of full-time work experience within three years prior to his application. At the time of his application, he must be employed, but according to the government language it can be “in any possession”. Self-employment is not eligible.
General requirements
Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 4 in English or French is required in all 4 (reading, writing, speaking, and listening) language skills. He also has to be designated for any Canadian province or territory other than Quebec.

4- French-speaking international student graduates
The below-mentioned all French-speaking immigrants streams are without any quota and as many as possible candidates can apply for the programs. French-speaking international student graduates pathway is a new track. This is for recent French-speaking international student graduates who are in Canada. The applicant may not intend to go to Quebec, but he may still be eligible for a Quebec-based education program.
Education

Work experience
For this stream, the candidate will require a minimum of 12 months of full-time work experience in Canada completed within 3 years of his application. His work experience should be in one of 40 eligible health care and social work occupations.
Language proficiency
Niveaux de compétence linguistique canadien (NCLC) 4 in French is required in all 5 (reading, writing, speaking and listening) language skills.
Employment
At the time a candidate is going to submit his case, he must have to be employed in any occupation eligible for the program (mentioned below in the occupations list), he cannot be self-employed unless he is a medical doctor in a fee-for-service with a health authority.

6- French-speaking essential workers in other occupations
In this track there is no limit to the number of people, French speakers with work experience in one of 95 eligible occupations may obtain permanent residence via this track. Eligible candidates must plan to travel to any Canadian province other than Quebec.

Employment
The candidate at the time of application must be employed in any of the eligible occupations. Self-employed are ineligible for this track. The candidate has completed the full-time work criteria within 12 months of applying. At the time of his case submission, he has a job, but the official says he can be employed in any occupation.
