Here are some of the permanent and temporary visa and immigration options from  India to Canada (we will keep on adding all possible options).

1- Provincial Nominee Program

If you are interested in a specific province or territory in Canada, you may receive a provincial nomination for permanent residence in addition to express entry; normally the provinces offer this to fill their provincial labor needs.

Provincial programs are of  two types,

Base programs: In this program, the candidate deals directly with the provincial government.

Enhanced programs:  Candidates will need an Express Entry Profile to be eligible in the Enhanced programs.

Once an applicant has received a provincial nomination, they are awarded an additional 600 CRS points with a guarantee of receipt of an invitation to apply (ITA).

All provinces participate in the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) except Nunavut and Quebec. Provinces use this program to fulfill their provincial labor needs Quebec has its own immigration plan designed for French-speaking and bilingual applicants. Atlantic immigration pilot, family sponsorship, business programs can also be used to relocate to Canada.

Here are 2 examples of provincial nominee program works for Alberta and Saskatchewan.

1- Alberta immigrant Nominee Program

Alberta province currently runs the following immigration programs:

Alberta Opportunity Stream: This immigration program allows applicants to apply while having minimum eligibility requirements even if they are working in Alberta ineligible occupations.

Alberta Express Entry Stream: A program that allows Alberta province to nominate an applicant for the Express Entry Program of Federal Government. The nominated persons get 600 extra points for the comprehensive ranking system. That brings almost 100% chances for them to get Canada PR.

Self-Employed Farmer Stream: Through this immigration stream, people who can afford to buy a farm in Canada with farming experience apply for permanent residence.

2- Express Entry

The Government of Canada has introduced the Express Entry System, a new electronic immigration program offering skilled and eligible immigrants on January 1, 2015. Express Entry is the most famous route to immigrate to Canada especially for skilled workers. Express Entry Program handles applications for permanent residency for immigrants who are able to fill jobs where Canadians are not skilled. It allows Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) to review, recruit, and select immigrants with relevant qualifications under the following “Federal Economic Immigration” programs:

  • The Canadian Experience Class (CEC)
  • The Federal Skilled Trade Program (FSTP)
  • Federal Skilled Worker Program(FWSP)

The applicant will need to check academic documents for any degree, diploma, or certificate obtained outside of Canada. Knowledge of English or French language is also required in many cases. Canada consistently provides Express Entry draws (usually twice a month) inviting the top-candidates to apply for permanent residence.

If you are in the pool you will be given a score based on your age, work experience, education, language skills, and other factors such as your human capital factors. Your score is based on a comprehensive ranking system.

The first question is whether the candidate is eligible or not, if he is eligible he will:

  • create an express entry profile
  • then he will provide education documents with an IELTS certificate
  • if he has an invitation to apply, he will submit the visa application with medical clearance and PCC reports within 60 days
  • in the end, he will need visa stamping.

And communities have started accepted applications from applicants.

“You should find an employer and start working for him in one participating community. As an applicant, if your permanent residency is approved, you will have the chance to work and stay there.”

The participating pilot communities are as follows:

  2. Sudbury, ON

4- Agri-Food Immigration Pilot

The Canadian government has announced a new Agri-food industry migration pilot program of 3 years.  After a delay of a few weeks, the Agri-food immigration pilot program is set to start on 15 May 2020 (as per the official Canadian immigration website). Low IELTS score, only secondary school certification, one year’s Canadian work experience, and a job from Canada will take you through this new pilot program. Temporary foreign workers in different eligible occupations will be able to apply for this permanent residency and will be allowed also to bring their family members.

The program mainly focuses on the shortage of skilled workers particularly in meat processing and mushroom production and other agricultural sectors. The Department of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada says that this program would help foreign workers to come to Canada through temporary work visa programs but with the ability to change this work visa to permanent residency that is a path to Canadian citizenship.

6- Temporary Work Visa

For getting a work permit in Canada, one surely thinks of having good qualifications and working skills. The good news is that having only normal or less qualification, you can still qualify for a work permit in Canada. For having complete information about this topic, you must first understand work permits categories in Canada.

Canada categories its work permit categories into 5 overall. Here we will only discuss the last two which are called skill level ‘C’ and skill level ‘D’.

So with only higher secondary school qualifications, you can apply for these 2 categories.  Skill level ‘C’ category is normally for intermediate jobs that usually call for high school or job-specific training for example cashiers, cleaning jobs, and plumber helpers, etc.

Skill level ‘D’ jobs are labor jobs that give on-the-job training for example fruit pickers, cleaning staff, and laborers in seafood processing, etc.

Being an applicant, if you apply through these categories, you can apply with less education. Before applying, you must make sure you have the following requirements and documents.

Canada work permit requirements for less educated people

  • You hold high school qualification
  • You have at least 1 to 2 years of experience (regardless of the fact that for this category most of the time work training is given during job)
  • You have an IELTS certificate in general training with a minimum 4 band score or any other recognized English language test

7- Student Direct Stream

Pakistanis, Indians, and students of China, the Philippines, and Vietnam can apply for this stream. Through this stream, students can have their visa applications online submitted and are processed under 20 calendar days in most cases. The application process is simple and brings more easy to apply from home. The visa success ratio is, of course, improved for eligible countries provided all requirements are met.

A study permit is not a visa. It does not, by itself, allow you to travel to or enter Canada. You may also need a visitor visa or an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA). Provided that your visa application is approved, the Canadian immigration office will issue it with your study permit.

Major requirements:

  • apply online only
  • have been accepted by a post-secondary (college or university) designated learning institution in Canada
  • have the minimum required qualification to follow your study program

  • have paid the tuition fees for the first year of your study program in advance
  • fulfill the language proficiency requirements: 6.0 band score in IELTS in each skill (reading, listening, speaking, and writing) or proficiency in the French language at CLB level 7
