Prince Edward Island Express Entry Program

Prince Edward Island not only runs its provincial nominee program but also is a part of the Atlantic Immigration Pilot Program. It is the province of Canada. It is a small province in terms of area and population – but this Atlantic island province has an incredible coastal culture with booming tourism, fishing, and agro-industries. Candidates can apply for a PEI Express Entry nomination for permanent residency. This is a great opportunity to obtain permanent residence in PEI through the PEI PNP. If you get your nomination via PEI PNP, your chance of obtaining ITA from the Federal Government will be high.

How PEI PNP Express Entry works?

Potential immigrants who are in the Federal Express Entry pool and have expressed an interest in living and working in Prince Edward Island may be eligible for PEI Express entry. Candidates must be eligible for one of the Federal Economic Immigration Classes, however, only applicants whose skills and experience match the province’s current wage requirements will be considered for Express Entry PNP.

Eligibility Criteria

If you are thinking to participate in the PEI Express Entry program, you have to fulfill the requirement in one of the following Federal Economic Immigration Program:   

  1. The Canadian Experience Class (CEC)
  2. The Federal Skilled Trade Program (FSTP)
  3. Federal Skilled Worker Program (FWSP)

If your meet the criteria the first thing is to do is to make a profile. you will create a Federal Express Entry Profile and be placed in the pool of applicants. You will create a profile through IRCC. If you want to get permanent residence through the PEI Express Entry category, you will be given two options, depending on whether you have a job offer in PEI or not. People living and working in PEI will be provided permanent residency on a priority basis.

Application process

First of all, you need to check the eligibility criteria, if you meet it the next step is making a profile for this stream. You will create a profile in the Prince Edward Island Expression of Interest system. For profile creation you will need to provide:

  • Your email address
  • Your identification
  • Your passport details

If your account has been verified, now you can move to complete your profile. Candidates will only have one active profile at any one time.

Profile expiry/profile changes

When you complete your profile the next question is for how much time it will remain active? The answer is it will expire after six months. As for as changes in your profile are concerned, yes you can also do changes in your profile.  After registration, the further step is your invitation to apply. When you are invited to apply you will be sent an email. In this email, you will find your profile number and guidelines for the submission of your application. When you have obtained an invitation to apply you will need to complete the online forms. You will complete the employee forms and your employer will fill the employer forms.

Graduates with PGWP

Graduates are eligible to apply for a work permit. PGWP holders seeking nomination under Express Entry must complete at least nine months of work experience with a PEI employer before considering immigration routes if you:

  • Have a PGWP degree and graduated from an institution outside PEI
  • Obtaining an open work permit for spouses because of a spouse’s study permit from an institution outside PEI.
  • Submit an expression of interest at least four months before your PGWP expires.
  • If you are currently in Canada, you must be there legally. This means that if you are on a study permit in Canada and you are not studying, you are not eligible to apply.

Which forms do you need to fill out?

You must complete all the following applicable provincial forms:

  • PEIW-01: Pre-authorized payment form
  • PEIW-03: Use of PEI Workforce Representative Form (if applicable)

In addition, your employer must complete the following form:

  • PEIW-02: PEI Workforce Job Offer Form

If you are selected to be nominated by PEI, you must accept online nominations through your MyCIC account. After being invited to apply by the IRCC, you must submit an electronic application for permanent residence through your MyCIC account with all supporting documents and fees. The IRC is responsible for deciding all applications for permanent residence.

Fee for skilled worker outside Canada

When you create your profile, it means you are showing your Expression of interest. Profile creation is free of cost. But when you are selected to apply for nomination by Prince Edward Island, you will pay CAD$ 300. Keep in mind this amount is non-refundable. You will submit this fee online with your application. You should have an arrange of debit or credit card for the payment.

In case your Work Permit is near to expire

If you want to apply for PEI Express Entry and your work permit is about to end, you can apply for a Bridging Open work permit. You will prove that you are legal in Canada. It’s your personal thing to look out if your Work Permit is near to expire. You are responsible to renew it. the authorities of PEI Express Entry will not assist you to extend a work permit that is about to expire. If you are in PEI and working there you can be eligible for a nomination through one of another category, in this case, authorities will write an employer-specific letter of support for a work permit extension to be issued with the nomination.

Bridging Open Work Permit (BOWP)

The Bridging Open Work Permit (BOWP) keeps you working while you wait for the results of your permanent residence application. You may be eligible if you apply for one of the following permanent residency programs.

Next step after the nomination

If you are selected to be nominated by PEI, you must accept online nominations through your MyCIC account. After being invited to apply by the IRCC, you must submit an electronic application for permanent residence through your MyCIC account with all supporting documents and fees. You need to work with an employer until you can become a permanent resident. If there are any changes after the nomination, you should notify the Immigration Office and the IRCC immediately.
