Once you are in Turkey, you can apply for a short-term residence permit very easily before your visit visa expires. Turkish visit visa is normally issued for 30, 60, or 90 days. Depending on your nationality, you are given a certain number of days to stay in Turkey. For example, for Pakistani and Indians, the maximum visit visa is for 30 days out of a total of 180 term days but on the other hand, Germans can get it for 90 days. On this visit visa of 30 days, you apply for a short-term residence permit, that will be given to you for one year.

Once you have a visit visa of Turkey, you can apply for a short-term residence permit for the following reasons:

How much does it cost?
Talking about the residence permit application fees, it is 306.42 Turkish Lira (approx. USD 56.81 calculated on 27.03.2019) + Card fee of 63.00 Turkish Lira (approx. USD 11.68 calculated on 27.03.2019). Additionally, you will have to pay also for health insurance for the whole intended stay in Turkey.

First of all, go to the official website of the Government of Turkey for visas by clicking here. After clicking, you will reach this page:
Click on applying for residence permit for the first time.
Click on ‘I lodge my first new application’:
Fill in the pre-registration with personal details. This will create your online account.
Once the first registration step is done, go to the next step to choose the type of residence permit you want to apply for. In your case, it is a short-term residence permit, so click on it, please.
On the next page, you will be asked to submit your personal information in 2 sections. Fill in those both and also upload the white background scanned passport sized photograph:
On the next page, you will find details to fill for your travel document (passport) which must be valid for 2 months after the expiry of the intended short term residence permit:
After filling in this section, click on next to confirm if you applying for yourself or for someone else. Choose accordingly and click next:
On the next page, you will have to put information about the country where you have been living permanently:
After clicking next, come to the next page and fill in your details of a contact in Turkey:
Click on next, you will reach on the next page to fill in your job or work details. If you are unemployed, choose unemployed from the drop-down menu and click on next by leaving all fields blank. If you work or have a business, fill this all on:

The next page is for an insurance policy. You need to mention here all details of the insurance company and insurance policy number etc. This section is for a private insurance policy only. For general insurance ( this is for those who have work permission in Turkey and they have tax id as well), you will have to give the social security institution details too. Since you are applying or the first time a short-term residence permit, you will use private insurance. Fill in the information for your chosen policy:
Click next after you have filled in all details and you will be taken to the next page where you will have to submit an information declaration. The statements written with red color are mandatory to be checked, whereas the black colored statements are optional and you will only check them if you have those tasks before:
On the next page, you will have to give details of your short residence permit. Here you will have to tell the explanation why do you want to stay in Turkey longer. It is optional to fill in. You may skip afield on this page if you find it inappropriate. However, the more information you give, the faster will be the process. Also, choose the dates of the start and end of the proposed short-term residence permit.
On the next page, choose to make an appointment on the options menu shown to you:
On the next page, choose to make an appointment only for yourself if you are applying alone:
On the next page, choose the place of application submission, since you have already given residence city address, so the only city name will be available in the drop down menu. Also, choose the day and time to submit the application here:
On the next page, chose the payment option and pay it online through a bank card. If you do not want to pay online, you may pay it through a bank by confirming it from the immigration office first:
On the next page, you will see the same menu again for different options. Here you can update the application if you want to change any information in your visa form. Choose print the application option to take a print out. Once you have printed out the application, you can’t change the information:
After having a printout, you will have to sign the application at the end of the page. You can stay then in Turkey till the date of appointment:

Health Insurance
Whilst applying for a short-term residence permit in Turkey, one must have valid health insurance. The amount calculation as per Turkish Immigration Authorities is as follows:
To calculate the required level of health insurance in Turkish currency, put your year of birth in the box given at the end of the page. If you stay in Istanbul, you can get your health insurance in an hour or two after applying for it. If you live in other cities, it will be sent to you through the post.
