Sample Entry Test (Aufnahmeprüfung) For Studienkolleg

If you are planning to study in a studienkolleg, you will have to pass an entry test (Aufnahmeprüfung). All Studienkollegs conduct different entry tests mostly for German language and Mathematics. However, some just conduct tests in the German language. The test for the German language lasts for 60 to 90 minutes. On the other hand for mathematics, the test time is 45 minutes.

When are the Entry Tests Conducted in Studienkollegs in Germany?

The entrance exam for the summer semester takes place in January or February. The entrance exam for the winter semester takes place in July. It can be repeated twice (however it can vary for all Studienkollegs).

Afnahmeprüfung Entry Test

Every foreign applicant who would like to attend a course at the Studienkolleg must pass the so-called Aufnahmeprüfung (entrance test). This exam differs depending on the preparatory college and usually takes place twice or once a year.

Preperation of the Aufnahmeprüfung

The entrance exam is not an easy test. Every applicant must prepare properly and enough for this. Each preparatory college provides examples of the entrance test. There are also different books in every university library that are intended to help foreign applicants improve their German skills and thus better prepare for the entrance test.

Entrance Examination Components

In the entrance test, applicants must demonstrate their linguistic knowledge in one or more tests (for example: listening comprehension, reading comprehension, C test, and writing). In some preparatory colleges, other knowledge (for example: mathematics, physics, or economics) may have to be tested.

Quota at the Studienkollegs

Since places in the preparatory college are usually limited and due to the high number of participants, passing the entrance exam is not enough to get a place in the preparatory college. Places will be awarded to participants who have achieved the best grades.
