How to get Canada’s study permit?

If your study permit is approved, you will be issued a work permit with your study permit which allows you to work part-time during your study term.

Certificate d’ acceptation du Quebec

This certificate is necessary if you want to study in Quebec, you are required d’ acceptation du Quebec (CAQ) provided by the Quebec government. Your institution will give you all the details on how to apply for the CAQ. If your case for a CAQ got approved by the ministere de I’Immigration, de la Francisation  et de I’Integration (MIFI), while you are still waiting to obtain the CAQ, you can apply for a study permit with the approval letter from the MIFI. Your stay period in Canada with a study permit

The length of time you are allowed to remain in Canada on a study permit depends on the length of your study program. In addition, the permit is valid for an extra ninety days. Let ninety days prepare you to leave Canada or apply to extend your stay.

  • If your school asks you to take courses before enrolling in the main program (you have conditional acceptance), your study permit will be valid for the size of these courses, plus 12 months.   • You’ve done your studies on the date your faculty first notifies you by completion letter, transcript, degree, or diploma.
  • You have to provide evidence of the date your school tells you or the date your degree, diploma, or certificates arrived. I fail to prove, that the earliest release date will be used on the document. This date is proven with your school.

Going back to your home country during your studies in Canada

If you leave Canada during your studies, you may be required to provide proof of enrollment at your faculty when you return to Canada. If you have a visitor visa or Electronic Travel Authority (ETA), it must still be valid when you return to Canada.

People who have exceptions from permits to study in Canada

If you are a member of the Foreign Armed Forces on official duty in Canada, you do not need a study permit. If your family members, including minors, want to find out about Canada, they may need a study permit according to the conditions. If you are registered as an Indian in Canada, you do not need a study permit, even if you are a citizen of another country. If you have a family or staff member of a foreign representative in Canada who is identified by Global Affairs Canada (GAC), you will not need a study permit. Your embassy can contact the GAC to find out if you need anyone.

Exceptions with short courses (6months or less)

If your course or program lasts for 6 months or less, you are exempt from study permission. Your course is not part of a longer program, you will complete all of your education within the time you are authorized to live in Canada (usually 6 months after your entry). Study permission is exempt.

Children less than 18 years of age in Canada

  • Young teenagers do not need a study permit if they are in preschool, primary, or secondary school, and are already in Canada with a parent who has a work or study permit.
  • If they are in kindergarten, they are a refugee or a refugee claimant, and their dad and mom are a refugee or a refugee claimant they do not need a study permit
  • When minors reach the majority age (18 or 19 years of age, depending on the province or region), they must apply for a study permit if they desire to continue their education.

But there are some reasons why you may need a study permit even if you don’t need it:

  • If you do not have a study permit, you can’t work while you are studying in Canada. In this case, you need to apply for a work permit. If you have a study allow and are registered as a full-time student at DLI, you may be eligible to work on or off-campus. If so, your study permit will include a condition that says you are allowed to work while studying.
  • You should get a study permit even though you do not need one right now. If you do not, you may not be able to start your long-study program.
  • If you are taking the required classes for a lengthy study program. You can also not need a study to allow for your conditional classes, but you may additionally need a full study program.
  • If you do not already have a study permit, you will have to wait till the study permit arrives to stop studying or begin or continue your studies.

Bio-metrics submission

You may need to provide your biometrics (fingerprints and photographs) when applying for a visitor visa, study permit, or work permit in Canada. If you need to provide your biometrics with your application, you will need to visit your nearest Visa Application Center (VAC) in person.

If you need to provide biometrics, do not submit a study permit by mail. Instead, submit it to the VAC as they collect your biometrics.

You need to provide biometrics after applying. After paying the biometrics fees and submitting the application, you will receive a letter stating that you need to provide your biometrics. And the place else to provide your biometrics. Your application will be checked to ensure you have all the necessary documents. If it is incomplete, it will be returned without processing your request, except to you may be asked to go for an interview with the officials in your country. You may be asked for more documents. If you have applied for your study permit from outside Canada

You will be sent a port of entry for a cover letter stating that you are allowed to study in Canada. This letter is not your study permit. You will also be sent an Electronic Travel Authority (ETA) or Visitor Visa (Temporary Resident Visa) to enter Canada. You need to bring this letter with you and show it to a Border Services officer when you arrive in Canada.

If you are from a country where you need an ETA, the letter of introduction will include information about your ETA. Your ETA will be attached to your passport and will be valid for 5 years or until your passport expires. Travel with your passport when you apply for a study permit. If you are from a country where you need a visitor visa, the visa will be in your passport. It will show if you can enter Canada once or more. You must enter Canada before your visa expires.

If you are in Canada and applying for a study permit

You will receive study permission at the Canadian address you added to your application. You must have your introduction letter. A step 1 eligibility assessment is not like the introduction of an approval letter. Once you have this letter, make sure you are eligible and then ask for permission to study.

Who is eligible?

To achieve your study permit without leaving Canada, you will want to provide. You have applied for a study permit. You obtained your introduction letter. If you have received a passport application letter, follow the directions in this letter and then wait for your introduction letter to arrive. You are legitimate in Canada. In case of status expiration, you should restore your status before requesting permission.

Process your permit request

  1. You should contact to authorities by IRCC web form
  2. When you are asked if you are applying outside Canada you should say no
  3. You will send your introduction letter’s copy along with the request
  4. After approval, you will receive your study permit through the mail.
  5. After completing your inquiry section should write the same text given below
  6. “A11EXAM: I am requesting an examination and the issuance of my study permit from inside Canada. My utility number is [S#########]. I have obtained my letter of introduction, which is legitimate till [DATE]. I entered Canada on [DATE] as a [visitor/student/worker]. My right contact data in Canada is Telephone: Mailing address: And residential address: I proceed to be established at [DLI Name] and will be/am registered in the [Name] Program.  “

In case of refusal

Your study permit can be refused due to the following reasons if you fail to provide:

  • Evidence of your financial strength
  • Medical exam if needed
  • Convincing the visa officer that your primary purpose in Canada is to study or Convince the visa officer that you will leave Canada at the end of your study period
  • You can contact authorities if you have any questions about the reason for your refusal.
