IRCC’s focus on category-based draws
IRCC has been holding category-based draws most of the time instead of program-based ones. The category-based draws are:
- Health occupations;
- Trade occupations;
- Transport occupations;
- Stem occupations;
- Agriculture and agri-food occupations;
- French proficiency; and or
- General category.
On the other hand, the program-based draws are from:
- Provincial Nominee Program;
- Canada Experience Class;
- Federal Skilled Worker program; and
- Federal Skilled Trades program.
Surprisingly, the immigration department has not held yet any draw for the Federal Skilled Worker program, and Federal Skilled Trade program this year. The overall focus is on bringing temporary residents into the permanent residence net.
