Japan’s eVisa is now available in many countries for tourism purposes. Effective from 23 July, foreign nationals of the following countries can now apply for the electronic visa for tourism purposes in Japan:
- Australia,
- Brazil,
- Cambodia,
- Canada,
- Saudi Arabia,
- Singapore,
- South Africa,
- Taiwan,
- United Arab Emirates,
- the United Kingdom and,
- the United States.
As announced by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Japan, for all countries, eVisa is available for travel by plane. The candidates may also have to attend an interview in the Japanese consulate or embassy, which is normally not the case in other countries for an eVisa. Since this visa is for a short term (maximum of 90 days), if someone wants to apply for a long-term visa, they must apply for it in a Japanese embassy.
What is Japan’s eVisa?
Japan’s eVisa can be applied through the official website. Such visas are electronic and linked with the passport digitally. There are no stickers placed on the passport. At the airport in Japan, travelers have to show visa proof (visa issuance notice) to enter the country. The visa duration is as follows:

There are also certain requirements if the eligible nationals are applying for the eVisa from the following countries:

What is the eVisa issuance notice?
When a traveler has successfully received an eVisa, they must also show it at the Airport in Japan in the form of an eVisa issuance notice. There are no screenshots or pdf files accepted. The eVisa proof must directly be shown through the online account. The method is shown below in the pictures:
