Strongest Passport Ranking 2025: Singapore Tops the List, Global Mobility Shifts

In the Strongest Passport Ranking 2025, Singapore has claimed the top spot as the world’s most powerful passport, offering visa-free access to 193 destinations out of 227.

The latest edition of the Henley Passport Index, which draws on exclusive data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA), highlights growing competition among nations to improve global mobility for their citizens.

The passport index nowadays not only shows a trend of immigration towards a specific country, but it’s also a symbol of a country’s global standing.

Asia continues to dominate in passport strength, with Japan and South Korea tied for second place, granting access to 190 countries without prior visa requirements. Meanwhile, European nations fill the remaining top ranks, with France, Germany, Italy, and several others offering access to 189 destinations—securing third place in the index.

Shifting Power and Passport Influence

Notably, the UK and US continue their downward trend, with the UK ranking 6th and the US falling to 10th, now dangerously close to dropping out of the Top 10 for the first time in two decades. Once at the top of global mobility charts, both countries have gradually lost ground due to more restrictive immigration policies and slower engagement in new visa-waiver agreements.

India, however, stands out as the biggest climber in this edition. Despite adding just two visa-free destinations, it jumped eight spots to rank 77th. Saudi Arabia also advanced in the rankings, adding four new visa-free countries and now sitting at 54th place.

UAE and China Lead the Global Mobility Surge

The most significant long-term gains are seen in the United Arab Emirates and China, each climbing 34 places over the last decade. The UAE now ranks 8th globally—breaking into the Top 10—while China has steadily moved up to 60th, thanks largely to expanded visa-free agreements with countries across the Gulf and South America.

In 2025 alone, China granted visa-free access to several Gulf Cooperation Council nations and key South American countries, pushing its openness score to 75. This is a remarkable leap from the fewer than 20 countries it allowed visa-free entry to just five years ago.
