The Temporary Graduate Visa programs will be renamed with many other changes in effect from 1 July 2024. The Australian Government has announced changes to this visa stream big times as follows:
- The Post-Study Work stream is going to be renamed to the “Post-Higher Education Work” stream;
- The Graduate Work stream is going to be renamed to the “Post-Vocational Education Work” stream;
- No changes have been announced for the “Second Post-Study Work” stream but it is going to be renamed the “Second Post-Higher Education Work” stream.
Which program to choose?
The level of qualification used to determine study in Australia eligibility requirements will be the base for which category to apply. According to this rule:
- If the visa applicant holds a qualification that is degree level or higher, they should apply for the Post-Higher Education Work stream;
- If the applicant holds a diploma associate degree or trade qualification, they should apply under the Post-Vocational Education Work stream;
- The qualification used by the applicant must be related to their nominated occupation on the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL).
The further changes details are as follows (please note the new names for both streams have been used):
Post-Vocational Education Work stream
On this route, the following changes have been announced:

Stay periods for Indian nationals
The Australia-India Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement (AI-ECTA), remains as:
- up to 2 years for the Bachelor’s degree (including honors);
- up to 3 years for the Bachelor’s degree (with first-class honors in STEM, including ICT);
- up to 3 years for the Master (coursework, extended and research);
- up to 4 years for the Doctoral degrees (PhD).
