Does the UK start a new Immigration system for Pakistanis?

There is news all over in all esteemed newspapers of Pakistan that the UK has announced the new immigration system for Pakistanis. What is the reality of it and has the UK started a new immigration system for Pakistanis? The reality is that in fact, the UK government has not announced any separate immigration system for the Pakistani. This all happened when the Permanent Secretary of the UK’s Home Office, Matthew Rycroft on Thursday concluded a productive two-day visit to Pakistan by finalizing an agreement to tackle illegal migration.

On this occasion, Matthew Rycroft said, “UK Home Office’s new immigration system to provide a “level global playing field” for those willing to travel to the UK. “The UK is committed to strengthening visa routes and facilitating those wishing to travel between the two countries.”

The UK and Pakistan have a long and shared history that is bolstered by the 1.6 million Pakistani diaspora in the UK that is at the heart of the ties between the two countries, and it is these people-to-people ties that make Pakistan a particularly important partner for the UK Home Office, the statement said.

According to the UKBA’s official news press release, “It was decided that the agreement will be presented to Pakistan’s Federal Cabinet in the coming weeks to be implemented by the end of the year, subject to cabinet approval. The ground-breaking agreement will enable the sharing of criminal records between the UK and Pakistani authorities to support effective law enforcement cooperation between the two countries”.

From 1 January 2021, candidates who want to immigrate to the UK for education and work can submit their application under the newly implemented points-based immigration system. Once they graduate, international students can work and stay for up to 2 or 3 years depending on their qualifications in the UK. The country finally starts the Graduate Route stream today for international students. Through this route, from 1 July 2021, the graduate applicants can get for any skill level a two years visa whereas doctorate students can get a two-year visa. The UK initially announced the route back in March 2021. Now the immigration stream is active for accepting visa applications.
