EU commission initiates a new scheme to attract students, skilled workers, and graduates in member states. “Talent Partnerships: A new initiative to direct EU skills shortages and boost migration cooperation with partner countries”
The Commission is launching a “Talent Partnerships” which is a New pact on Migration and Asylum towards the betterment of the European Union. This initiative is brought to ease the burden of labor market which has enhanced due to shortage of skills along with increased workload and to improve the immigration program by developing friendly ties with partner countries.
The EU needs to take in the immigrants for its benefit as the pandemic has left severe impacts on the economy of every country. There is a serious lack of skills in almost every field that has exhausted the labor market.
Background and Formation of this pilot idea
The EU is trying to launch such a project for a very long time. For instance, in 2016, the Commission established a Mobility Partnerships Facility (MPF) which channels the EU funds for the formulation of pilot projects. These projects mostly came into working with the help of Egypt, Morocco, Nigeria, Senegal, Tunisia, and Moldova. Now, the Talent Partnerships will handle the pilot projects to migrate skilled professionals in Europe by cooperating with both European and non-European countries.
The key purpose of Talent Partnerships
The main objective of Talent Partnerships would be to manage migration from the partner countries and to magnify the skills among the labor market.
Vice-President for Promoting our European Way of Life, Margaritis Schinas, said:
“Well-managed, legal migration can bring great benefits to our society and the economy – especially as we emerge from the COVID-19 pandemic. Upskilling our existing workforce is essential but labor migration can also play an important role in reducing the skills gap and boosting EU innovation potential. Talent Partnerships are a “triple win” for all the parties involved – Member States, partner countries and migrants themselves.”
The design of Talent Partnerships
Its design and use will be discussed by the representatives of the Member States, social and economic partners, the European Parliament, and other EU stakeholders in a meeting organized by the Commission itself.
The hidden benefit for youth
EU offers technical or vocational education by Talent Partnerships for the students and it can benefit them in the future in the following ways:
- It provides the choice to students to choose their career directly;
- The employment rate is much higher for such students;
- They are more likely to graduate;
- They can practice more skills in less time.
The EU will also manage the immigration process for returning students and also for emigrants.
Legal migration will be the utmost priority
Through this pact, the partner countries will ensure the safe migration of refugees, students, and workers to meet the skills of the European labor market. Talent Partnerships will also provide jobs to the majority population and ensure the safety of residents. This is possible only by eliminating the fundamental cause of illegal migration.
Some of the main causes are:
- Poverty
- Family reunification
- Asylum
- Overpopulation
- Problems of citizenship
The irregular migration leads to prostitution, fighting, smuggling, kidnapping, and ransoms, and its eradication is one of the sole purposes of Trust Partnerships.
Further building and development of Trust Partnerships
The next step for the evaluation of its efficiency is to put forward suitable countries which are willing to invest and are the Member States.
We all are looking forward to the success of the Talent Partnerships Program.
EU Migration Packet 2020
The volume of global migration has been increasing for the last 5 decades, and this trend is expected to continue. Measures to control the flow of migration are needed within the EU and on its external borders, as well as outside its territory. The European Union should cooperate with its partners. The EU is committed to helping address these root causes of uncontrolled migration to third countries. Required measures include improving future prospects in a local context, tackling climate change, and ending youth unemployment. Read here more…
