Deportations from Germany have increased again. In the first six months of this year, 5,688 people were deported from Germany, compared to 4,616 in the first half of 2020. 904 minors and 760 women were among the almost 6,000 deported. The information has been released by the newspapers of the Funke media group. Compared to the same period in the previous year, almost a thousand more people were returned to their home countries in the first few months of 2021.
The interior expert of the left-wing parliamentary group, Ulla Jelpke, told the Funke newspapers that the federal and state governments would now “move more people out of the country” again “regardless of the concerns of those affected”.
Most of the people were returned to Georgia (541), Albania remained at number 2 with 456. Serbian deportees (300) remained at number 3. Pakistanis made it to the top 5. A total of 241 unsuccessful asylum seekers were deported to Pakistan. According to the federal government, the authorities deported 140 people to Afghanistan in the first half of the year.
The number of deportations decreased massively with the beginning of the corona pandemic in 2020. During 2015 and 2019, between 20,000 and 25,000 people were sent back from Germany to their countries of origin or other EU countries. With the pandemic, many states had stopped air traffic and closed borders. This also had an impact on the deportations from Germany.
