HOW TO GET ADMISSION IN HUNGARY’S UNIVERSITIES

Study in Hungary is gradually becoming famous day by day. When it comes to study there due to its affordable living cost and tuition fees, the main question rises that how to get admission in Hungarian universities. Although  it is not a very famous country, but as for as higher education standards are concerned, it stands very high. There are so many international students came out qualified from Hungarian universities  year and year . There are 65 institutions  providing education services currently, 39 are private universities and 27 are public universities .The ratio of students getting maximum marks in these universities is remarkable. The ranking and goodwill of these universities are impressive and meet the standards of other EU countries such as Germany, Italy and France. Currently 25,000 international students are enrolled in Hungarian universities. The Hungarian ministry of education wants to increase these number to 41,000 this year. Do you know why? EDUCATION SYSTEM

The Hungarian universities are valuable as other German and English universities European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) system is implemented in Hungry for education.That means you can transfer your credit to another EU countries after one semester or after a year. Currently 550 courses are offered in German , English, Italian and French languages for international students scope. There are more than 300 courses are in English language to oblige international students. As for as Hungarian language is concerned a wide range of courses is available.

WHAT IS REQUIRED FOR ADMISSION?

Always read their instructions and then  apply online for admission. Some universities ask for different required documents for some professional educational courses. IELTS with B2 level (6 to 6.5 band) is required as for as language is concerned for English programs.  Your high school certificate will approve your eligibility for higher education studies. Hungry universities are following standards of Bologna Process, that means for PhD and master’s degree it’s necessary to get a Bachelor’s degree. Let’s see documents required for admission. 1. Copy of your passport/ID
2. Language proficiency certificate
3. Latest CV
4. A letter of motivation
5. Two academic reference letters
6. Qualification documents (English translation is required if they are in other languages)

ADMISSION WITHOUT IELTS

You can be excepted from this requirement if you have studied previously in English medium of instruction. In such case, get a letter from you previous university that confirms your claim. Present it to your chosen university, if they accept the proof, it must be mentioned either on admission letter or on extra certificate (embassies accept such documents from public universities. Entrance tests can be taken by many Hungarian universities as well. Some times IELTS and TOEFL is included in entrance test but it varies course to course. So in such cases, you might not need English language proficiency.

HOW TO APPLY?

Since there is no centralized admission intake system in Hungary, you will have to decide first of all desired university and then e-mail international office of the university. Almost every university has an international office that helps you to deal with admission requirements, qualification assessment and language requirements etc. You will have to submit your application in online form in selected university. After submitting application and required documents, you may need arrangements for a Skype interview for some professional courses. Your have to pay your application fee first as some universities in Hungary ask for this.  After acceptance of your application an acceptance letter is issued to you. In second step you have to pay the tuition fees deposit.You may get approval by the university in the time of 4 weeks. 

TUITION FEES

The students willing to study abroad specially in Europe must compare funds and tuition fees from one to another country . In Hungry tuition fees is very affordable. In fact it varies institute to institute according to chosen program. The best idea is to always check the website of the university for international students fees graph. Note: In addition to paying tuition fees, students at Hungarian universities are also required to pay an application fee, exam fee and registration fee, each around €15. It is necessary to pay fees before enrollment in the case of most universities.

ARE INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS ALLOWED TO WORK?

The self funding students always feel financial problems to pay the course expenses, but good news is that they can work part-time. One can get a student job through student-job agencies. According to Hungarian law a student is entitled to have either a full-time (8 hours) or a part-time job (4 or 6 hours), however scholarship contracts may control the conditions under which a student can work. The minimum wage for unskilled work for 8 hours per day is around 430 EUR while the salary is approximately 560 EUR for skilled jobs.

DETAILS ABOUT ADMISSION IN HIGHER EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS

i- BACHELOR’S DEGREE

Let’s see what is required for BA degree. For this degree, language certificates, your diploma and other documents are required by the programmed. From Pakistan and India for example, 13 or 14 years studies is required for bachelors degree. Your can not apply directly after your 12 years studies for a university degree. The bachelor’s degree in Hungarian universities is almost of 3 years duration or of 180 ECTS credits.

ii- MASTER’S DEGREE

For master’s degree course, it is necessary to obtain bachelor’s degree as mentioned above from your homeland if you are an international student . So you have to submit your bachelor’s diploma and have to take an entrance exam in sme cases if the universities ask for this. Period for master degree in Hungry is 2 (120 ECTS credits) years.

iii- PHD

If you are looking for 4 years PhD degree you must have a master’s degree from university. For doctoral courses requirement is an  MA/MSC degree or an equivalent to these degrees. You have to complete 240 credit in 4 years for a single doctoral program. A final examination must be arranged at the end of fourth semester. After passing this test the last 2 years of doctoral programmer are related to writing your dissertation and conducting the research which can be complete in one or  more than one year.

ADMISSION DEADLINES

^{The deadline for the first round of admission procedures is usually in November for those classes that commence in February while the second round of admission procedures is in February for classes commencing in September.} 

The academic year is divided into 2 semesters including 14-15 weeks of lectures and seminars followed by an examination period that lasts for 6-8 weeks.

DIPLOMAS AND QUALIFICATION IDENTIFICATION FOR EU STUDENTS

Visit ENIC’s website (European Network of Information Centers) to get information on the method and required papers. To obtain the accurate information, contact the information center of your home country .There is no ultimate EU-wide identification of academic diplomas, that means you need to apply for this procedure to continue your studies in another Eu county.

If you get your degree in Hungry, you should go with a specific method as your degree may accept in other country . At completion of your course A statement of comparability of your earned university degree can be issued in your home or in the host country of your education.this means how your certificate compares to the ones you can earn in the other Eu institute.
