Italian Government announces Immigration opening dates

The Italian government has finally announced the application submission date of the regularization of undocumented migrants.

Opening date: 1 June 2020

Closing Date: 15 July 2020

According to the new immigration scheme (so-called amnesty scheme), regularization of foreign workers and of the farmworkers as well as domestic helpers and caregivers will be done through new regulation. Only applicants whose residence permit expired after 31 October 2019 and they did not have it converted in any other permit will be able to apply. All workers who have been identified with a photo report before 8 March 2020 will be able to access this measure or who can instead declare that they have resided in Italy continuously before that date.

How to apply?

Through employer

Applications can also be filed online on the website nullaostalavoro.dlci.interno.it/ by using the digital identification system SPID and following instructions in the user’s manual.

By applicant (foreigner himself)

If the applicant wants to apply by himself, he can apply to obtain a temporary permit through the police department. You can present a request for a stay permit at one of the 5,700 post offices set up to process such requests.

Undocumented immigrants will be able to get a 6-months temporary residence permit. As per the latest numbers, almost 500,000 to 600,000 illegal immigrants may benefit from this new regulation.

How much will it cost?

There are two ways application can be submitted:

For the employer: If your employer applies on your behalf to regularise you through a work contract, he will have to pay 500 Euros for workers.

For foreigner: 130 Euros are to be paid for the application if it is submitted by the foreigner/applicant himself. If you apply through a post office, then you will have to pay an extra administrative charge of 30 Euros.
