Italy to hire 12,000 workers from Tunisia by 2027 – New Agreement

Italy and Tunis have signed an agreement according to which 12,000 workers of Tunis will be able to go to Italy and work in the labor market. The total number will be completed by 2027.

The protocol was signed in Tunis on 4 March by Paola Nicastro, President and CEO of Sviluppo Lavoro Italia S.p.A., on behalf of the Italian Ministry of Labour, and by the Head of Cabinet of the Tunisian Ministry of Labor and Acting General Director of the ANETI, Abdelkader Jemmali, in the presence of the Minister of Labor and Professional Training, Lotfi Dhiab, and the Ambassador of Italy, Alessandro Prunas. Sviluppo Lavoro Italia will identify the employment needs of the Italian labor market, in particular of the companies involved in the implementation of the PNRR, ANETI will search for and select workers with the required qualifications in Tunisia.

On the sidelines of the signing of the Protocol, Paola Nicastro, President and CEO of Sviluppo Lavoro Italia: “With the signing of the Protocol we strengthen our action in the field of social and working inclusion of migrants by combining the theme of integration with the response to needs of businesses, create the best conditions so that the migration issue can translate into an opportunity to promote the autonomy and dignity of people”.

The memorandum of understanding implementing the Memorandum for cooperation in the management of migratory flows signed in Tunis in last year on 20 October by the Italian and Tunisian Foreign Ministers has been signed. “A concrete commitment from the Government to respond more adequately to the manpower needs of our production system and at the same time promote the management of regular, orderly, and safe migratory flows”, states Marina Calderone, Minister of Labor and Social Policies.

Tunis is also an eligible country under Decreto Flussi 2024. This means the citizens of Tunis can also apply for seasonal and nonseasonal work visas starting from 18 March 2024. The overall quota for this year has been set as 151,000 which will be distributed in all eligible countries.

To apply for the Decreto Flussi 2024 program, the applicants can apply for the above-mentioned visa categories as follows:

18 March, from 9 am21 March, from 9 am25 March, from 9 am
for applications for non-seasonal subordinate workfor stateless persons, refugees, and for family assistance in the socio-health sectorfor applications for seasonal subordinate work
