Malta Announces to Pay €200 to Foreign Tourists this Summer

Clayton Bartlo (Malta’s Tourism Minister) told that he is looking to offer international tourists a handout of €200 each for those who want to stay at least 3 days in the country in a five-star hotel. He told that a tourist who stays in a 4-star hotel will obtain €150, while those who pick a 3-star hotel will obtain €100. In case a person selects the Island of Gozo in Malta, the amount rises 10%. 

Malta also wants to lift most sanctions (travel restrictions) by June 1, 2021.

“The scheme is aimed at putting Malta’s hotels in a very competitive position as international tourism restarts,” Bartolo pointed out. Malta is looking to welcome 35,000 visitors in 2021, as the tourism sector accounts for over 27% of the nation’s economy. These steps have been initiated in order to assist the nation’s tourism sector recover from the difficulties that the industry has suffered since March 2020 due to the COVID-19.

Such a move would help the country, among others, revive the tourism sector. In 2019, Malta attracted more than 2.7 million international visitors, the number decreased by more than 80% since the start of the virus. According to current updates, almost 42% of adults have taken the 1st dose of vaccine against the pandemic in Malts, which is the top rated in the EU.

There are many different requirements for a visit visa to Malta. Means of subsistance

This majorly is required for the expenses of your trip. The expenses to be covered are return ticket, accommodation, in Malta travel and any other expenses. The applicant must have had money available in one of the following forms:

  • Cash in convertible currency
  • Traveler’s cheques
  • Cheque books for a foreign currency account
  • Credit cards
