The official statistics by the national statistics office of Malta have been announced. According to this, the total number of international tourists in Malta jumped to 122,163 in the third quarter of last year. Moreover, the figures with total nights spent rise to 1,045,058.
Even while the number of overseas holidays and business travels improved in the third quarter of this year in comparison to 2020. In spite of this improvement, it is still below pre-pandemic levels.
In 2019, the number of international tourists in Malta was 208,206. It decreased to 51,855 in 2020. On the other hand, in 2021, it got improved compared to 2020 to 122,000. Overall the level as in 2019 has not been achieved yet.
European Travel Commission (ETC) gave its statement regarding the overseas tourism growth in 2021. According to the report, European growth of tourism has improved as a result of high vaccination percentages. On the other hand, the figures are still below pre-pandemic levels. It seems that the state will not regain those levels until 2024.
Between July and September 2021, the number of international tourist visits was taken for vacation purposes was 61,936, followed by 41,986 visits to see relatives and friends. The age group 25 to 44 had the greatest number of outgoing travelers, followed by 45 to 64.
According to recent research, the rate of visitors from Italy and France to Malta exceeds. This accounts for 41.9 percent of all tourist trips.
The majority of overnight stays (64.6%) were spent in non-rented lodging places. On the other hand, international travelers stayed an average of 8.6 nights.
In the same period, outgoing travelers spent a total of €98.5 million between July and September. This amount corresponds to an average of €807 for each individual.
According to the report,
“Overall overseas visitor visits between January and September 2021 totaled 179,847, up 7.4% from the previous year.” The number of nights spent by foreign travelers increased by 53.0%, to over 1.9 million. Furthermore, the overall expected spend by outbound tourists was €151.2 million, up 29.7% from the same period in 2020.”
Figures indicate that overall visitor trips between January and September 2021. The amount has been reached 179,847, up 7.4% from the same timeframe in 2020.
Whereas, in the third quarter of this year, slightly under 142,000 persons made outward journeys, relative to 61,936 in the same timeframe the year before.
According to the statement of the National statistics office, the most significant drop was noticed in vacation travelers. It was roughly 44,000 persons taking such trips in the third quarter of 2019, certainly compared to just over 8,000 in the same time last year, a reduction of more than 80%.
