As an international student in Germany, you are eligible to work part-time. Furthermore, international students who do not come from the EU cannot become self-employed or work freelance!
As of August 2012, international students who do not come from the EU or EEA are allowed to work 120 full or 240 half days in a year. To do this they do not need authorization from the Employment Agency, i.e. the German authorities.
There are many opportunities for international students to work part-time in Germany. Restaurants, bars, coffee shops, cleaning jobs, advertisement distribution, kitchen helpers, waiters, and so on.
Gathering some hands-on experience is necessary before coming to Germany. This will ensure that you will be able to impress your employer during the very first meeting.
