Schengen Visa Fee increased as of 11 June 2024

The EU has increased the Schengen visa fee for all member countries from €80 to €90 worldwide. The rise of 12 percent is in effect from 11 June 2024.

By this date, applicants (adults) from third countries will have to pay €90 and €45 for children aged 6 to below 12. Parents do not have to pay Schengen visa fees for children below 6 years of age. Furthermore, the extension of the Schengen visa has been set the same as €30.

As announced by the EU, starting from 11 June, all Schengen countries will be charging 90 Euros either directly or through outsourced companies such as VFS Global, TLS Contact, or others depending on the country of origin of the applicant. Moreover, the third parties that receive the uniform visa application on behalf of a Schengen country, can now charge half of the main visa fee as service charges.

The third countries, that lack cooperation towards the matters of repatriation or taking strong steps against illegal migration, their applicants may have to pay a higher fee such as €120 to €160. This is however decided by the EU against them in a special decision notice.

Why has the EU increased the Schengen visa fee?

The European council first decided to increase the Schengen visa fee in 2020 comparing the inflation rates in the EU-wide. At that time, it was also decided to increase the uniform visa fee increase after every three years. So the current increase is the continuity of that regulation.
