Italy has always been a top country as for as migration is concerned. Non- EU citizens form many African, Asian and other countries decide to leave homes for different reasons such as work or student visas.
According to the Italian statistics bureau ISTAT, a few migrants were able to get residence permits in 2018. The number of asylum seekers and refugees was also down to 40%.
“In total, 242,009 new Italian stay permits visas were issued”.
Chinese students got most of the benefits from student visa stream whereas for other residence permits, migrants of Albania and Morocco topped.
That statistic information represents the 7.9% less issued stay permits than the previous year, according to the Italian ISTAT analytics. This is mostly caused by the decline in stay permits to asylum seekers.
A drop of 41,9% was seen for refugees’ stay permits. In the meantime, there was an increase in work permits with 19,7% and also family stays permits by 8,2%.
Because the increase of the study permits by 20%, the Chinese got the most of the visas making it 21% of the total. That makes it more than 4500 students visas for them.
Around 56% of the non-EU migrants and refugees were positioned in the northern regions of Italy, whereas on the other hand just 23% of that new residing permits were issued in the southern region of Italy.
Albania and Morocco, according to the Italian ISTAT statistics and analytics, were the top 2 migrants’ and refugees’ origin countries.
Nigerian migration reduced by 40%. Two previous among top ten, Gambia and Senegal slipped out. Interesting is that the Ukraine and Egypt are also included in that top 10 counties of origin list.
Fewer residence permits have been issued to the residents of Pakistan and Bangladesh whereas Indians saw a steady increase.
Passports and citizenship
According to the ISTAT analytical report of 2018, less numbers of non-EU countries citizens acquired Italian citizenship than 2017.
There were around 1,354,260 new Italian migrant citizens by the 1st of January 2018.
