Trudeau targets higher immigration despite pandemic travel curbs

No matter what the conditions are, the Canadian immigration graph is continuously remaining higher and higher. According to Bloomberg News, despite the pandemic of coronavirus, the goal of higher immigration in Canada is still reaching its heights. Justin Trudeau is having more success in winning the trust of immigrants from around the world. Canada has been able to receive almost 128,186 immigrants so far during the first eight months of 2020. This seems well behind the set-aside target of 341,000 but according to ongoing pandemic issues, this still is being considered a big success. On the other hand, if Canada continues to receive new permanent residents at the rate it did in 2019, it will be able to finally have almost 241,000 new PR holders by the end of 2020. Canadian immigration minister Marco Mendicino is aiming to maintain government immigration targets for the next three years although traveling is limited this year. He is not backing down on official immigration targets.

Despite high immigration targets, travel restrictions are holding back the flow of visitors. Canada was looking for 341,000 new immigrants, but only 128,186 could makeit through in the last eight months during the year 2020.

Canada has taken advantage of immigration to help fill the gaps in the labor market and increase the population. Mendesino had previously said that immigration would remain a “sustainable value” after the coronavirus. The ministerial meeting was arranged on higher immigration goals for the coming year.

Marco Mendocino was with his parliamentary secretary to announce the 2020 to 2022 immigration level plans. The proposal plan was based on the solid economic foundation of the previous level plans and is keeping with mandate letter from the Prime minister continuously to responsibly grow the number of permanent residents admitted Canada each year from 341,000 in 2020 to 351,000 in 2021 and 361,000 in 2022.

Marco Mendicino announced that more than 1,000,000 new immigrants are expected in the next two years. He has also consulted with labor and different business organizations for immigration demand according to Bloomberg. Since Canada’s border was closed for unnecessary travel in March 2019, the number of such permanent residents fell by about 64 percent last August to the 2019 level.
