Tuition-free universities are not available in all Eu countries. The same is true for Portugal. Students have to pay a certain amount of tuition fee yearly. However, there are many universities in Portugal that allow you to apply for a scholarship program (for candidates with academic excellence). On the other hand, there are many other universities too that offer really cheap and inexpensive degree programs as compared with other European countries.
Average tuition fees in Portugal for bachelor or master degrees
In general, public universities charge €1500 to €2000 for bachelor programs and€2000 to €3500 Euro for master programs. Private universities on the other hand charge almost €3200 to €4500. Each university in independent to charge yearly fees from international students.
Following are the universities that are considered to be the most affordable:
- Polytechnic of Tomar – average tuition fees €1,200-1,400
- Polytechnic Institute of Bragança – average tuition fees €1,050
- Catholic University of Portugal Porto – average tuition fees €700
- Polytechnic Institute of Leiria – average tuition fees €1,150
You have to apply to the university for admission directly and also for available scholarships. Please bear in mind the dates and deadlines for admission.
