UK and India sign ground-breaking partnership migration deal

The UK and India ink new migration agreements for talent exchange which will allow 18 to 30 year-olds to work or study in the UK for up to 24 months.

Indian professionals aged 18-30 will be allowed to stay in the UK for up to 2 years under the new cultural exchange program. This is a result of a ground-breaking deal and agreement between the Indian and UK governments. Tuesday 4 May, Home Secretary of the UK Priti Patel and India’s Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar signed the Migration and Mobility Partnership Agreement. The program is also being considered important to reduced illegal migration from India to the UK. The pact will provide enhanced employment opportunities for 3,000 young Indian professionals annually.

The UK is advertising its new immigration policy through such programs. The agreements countries like India will also encourage more other countries such as Pakistan and Afghanistan too to do the same.

Home Secretary Priti Patel said:

“I am committed to delivering for the British public a fair but firm New Plan for Immigration that will attract the best and brightest talent to the UK through our new points-based immigration system, whilst clamping down on those who are abusing the system. This ground-breaking new agreement with India is an important milestone in delivering on this pledge”.

She further said,

“This landmark agreement with our close partners in the government of India will provide new opportunities to thousands of young people in the UK and India seeking to live, work and experience each other’s cultures. This agreement will also ensure that the British government can remove those with no right to be in the UK more easily and crack down on those abusing our system”.

Every year, thousands of Indian students leave for the UK to study in of the top universities there. Nearly a quarter of all international students in the UK are from India. According to the most recent statistics, more than 53,000 students from India came to the UK to study last year, up 42% from the previous year.

The UK will advance freedoms for Indian nationals concentrating in the UK to stay in the UK to attempt talented work following the effective fulfillment of their investigations.

UK is also aiming to make the process faster for the deportation of illegally resided Indian citizens in the UK.
