US DV Lottery (Diversity Visa) Registration Opens 2023

The most awaited United States DV Lottery program is in action again. The US State Department has opened the registration of the DV lottery visa for 2023. Applicants have access to online registration on the State Department’s official Diversity Visa Lottery website from 12:00 PM EDT (GMT -4) on October 6, 2021, to 12:00 PM EST (GMT -5) on November 9, 2021.

For the fiscal year 2023, the DV lottery program will give up to 55,000 green cards (permanent residencies) through casual selection. Its result will be announced on 7 May 2022. The Department of State determines selectees through a randomized computer drawing.

The quota for the 2023 DV Lottery Visa

For the Fiscal Year 2023, according to The Department of State, up to 55,000 Diversity Visas (DVs) will be issued.

Registration fees

Initially, there is no cost to register for the Diversity Visa program for 2023 online registration. On the other hand, the Diversity Visa Lottery fee (per person applying as a DV program selectee for a DV category immigrant visa) is $330.00 which is non-refundable in any case.

When to submit ‘Green Card, application for DV lottery

Candidates selected for the diversity visa lottery program can apply for permanent residency from 12:00 PM EDT (GMT -4) on October 6, 2021.

DV Lottery Registration Requirements and Details 

  • The candidate will apply online on the DV lottery website.
  • A digital photo through the official DV lottery website.
  • Applicants submitting an online form for the DV lottery can add their wife and children’s information for their registration.
  • Unclear information or photos will be disqualified.
  •  At the acceptance of the application, a confirmation number is provided to the candidate, that can be utilized to check the application status.
  • The applicant enters the information of his/her valid international travel passport, except those beneficiaries of individual exemptions approved by the Secretary of Homeland Security and the Secretary of State or Unless the applicant is deprived of the state, is a citizen of a Communist-controlled country and is unable to obtain a passport from the Communist-controlled government.
  •  Single entry is allowed for one person.
  • Applications on behalf of one person will be disqualified.

Eligibility requirements

In total, there are 2 major requirements that must be met in order to apply:

Requirement no. 1:

The diversity visa lottery is for people of courtiers who have historically low rates of immigration to the United States. The people from countries having excessive rates of United States immigration are not able to register. It should be clear that the people who are from ineligible countries but they are by birth from a country that is eligible for the lottery can participate.  If you are not a native of a country with historically low rates of immigration to the United States, there are two other ways you might be able to qualify:

  • is your spouse a native of a country with historically low rates of immigration to the United States? If yes, you can claim your spouse’s country of birth – provided that you and your spouse are named on the selected entry, are found eligible and issued diversity visas, and enter the United States simultaneously.
  • are you a native of a country that does not have historically low rates of immigration to the United States, but in which neither of your parents was born or legally resident at the time of your birth? If yes, you may claim the country of birth of one of your parents if it is a country whose natives are eligible for the DV-2023 program.

Requirement no. 2:

A high school education (or equivalent) is necessary for the applicants or at least two years of working experience. This could be proven by showing:

  • at least a high school education or its equivalent defined as successful completion of a 12-year OR
  • two years of work experience within the past five years in an occupation that requires at least two
    years of training or experience to perform.

This year, people born in the following countries Vietnam, Korea, United kingdom (northern Ireland and surrounding mean its dependent are eligible), South Korea, Philippines, Nigeria, Pakistan Bangladesh, Brazil, Canada, China (including Hong Kong SAR), Colombia, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, India, Jamaica, Mexico, and Nigeria are ineligible. On the other hand, people who are in Macau SAR Taiwan are eligible for the lottery.

Precautionary measures when applying

  • for registration is free of cost. The demand for fees from individual companies is fake.
  • State Department never claims anything neither in the shape of letters/emails nor faxes.
  • do not use unauthorized websites for your concern and never share your information.
  • look out the misleading websites. always choose the original DV LOTTERY WEBSITE which is available only on the STATE DEPARTMENT WEBSITE.

Persons born in Southern Sakhalin are chargeable to Russia. Natives of the following Asia Region countries are not eligible for this year’s Diversity Visa program: Bangladesh, China Hong Kong), India, Pakistan, South Korea, Philippines, and Vietnam.
