The Chevening scholarship program is run by the UK government for potential students and professionals. It gives you a chance to study in the UK’s best universities without having the worry of money. Chevening scholarships are fully-funded scholarships and you pay nothing for tuition fees or living expenses or even for your travel. What is the financial support of Chevening Scholarships?
As an international student, you get the following benefits from the Chevening scholarship program:
- Payment of tuition fees. The Chevening contribution to the tuition fee is capped at £22,000. If you master program worths more thaan it, you will have to show how will you be able to paythe rest of the tuitionfees in future,
- Visa fees: the cost of an entry clearance (visa) application for you only,
- A departure allowance, paid once you have arranged to leave the UK at the end of your award,
- A travel top-up allowance, paid once you have arrived in the UK
- Traveling cost: an cconomy travel to and from your country of residence by an approved route for you only. There may be restrictions on flights from your home country to the UK or limited flights available at the time your course starts.
- An arrival allowance, paid once you have arrived in the UK,
- A contribution of up to £75 for TB testing, where this is required for your visa application (such as applicants fromPakistan).
- Living cost: A monthly personal living allowance (stipend) to cover accommodation and living expenses such as:
- If you are studying in the UK, the monthly stipend will depend on whether you are studying inside or outside of London.
- Where your course starts or ends partway through the month, the stipend for that month will be adjusted as appropriate.
- If you start your studies remotely and travel to the UK partway through a month, and move from a local to UK stipend rate, the stipend for that month will be adjusted.
- If you are studying remotely in your home country, the local stipend rate will be tiered and will depend on the cost of living in that country.
- These rates are subject to annual review.
- Stipend payments will be made to you on or around the 21st of the month for the following full month.
- If the British embassy or consulate after interviewing you awards you a part of the scholarships, then you may only get your tuition fees paid without stipend or other allowances. Morover, in this scenerio, you will have to show the financial means too, to support yourself during your stay in the UK.
- The tuition fees are also funded by 20% of its total worth by your chosen university. In case the university does not pay it, the FCDO (partner organizataion) can also withdraw the scholarship contract. Furthermore, it will send you for the next available choice with complete funds availability. On the other hand, you can also commit to pay the 20%, hencein this situation, the placement wwill notbe terminated.
Chevening Scholarships Eligibility Requirements
In general, you must fulfill the following requirements:
- be a citizen of Chevening eligible country (see here the complete list)
- hold an undergraduate degree (bachelor’s degree) that allows you to study a postgraduate degree (master’s degree) in the UK. This should be equivalent to an upper second-class 2:1 honours degree in the UK,
- the chosen course must start in the autumn term (usually September/October) at a level of taught master’s degree and surely it must be based in the UK,
- have worked professionally for 2 years (equivalent to 2,800 hours and it may include Full-time employment, Part-time employment,Voluntary work, Paid or unpaid internships),
- will return to the country of citizenship after the completion of your studies for at least two years,
- must apply in three different UK universities and must have received the unconditional offer letter till 16 July 2022
- for English language requirements, you must meet the criteria of the university.
Chevening scholarships English language requirements
The Chevening English language requirement was removed in 2020. Candidates will still need to meet all requirements from their chosen university and secure an unconditional offer from one of their three-course choices by the deadline.

How to apply for Chevening Scholarships?
Apply online
It all goes online and is simple. You have to apply online for the program through the online application system (OAS). You can create an account online here to set up the journey. Please do read these instructions before applying.
Work Experience
You must show that you hold valid work experience as a full or part-time employee, volunteer, or paid or unpaid intern. A full-time work comprises 35 to 60 hours per week and a working year comprises 40 to 50 weeks. In hours, the work experience must of at least 2800 hours in any case. Surely part-time work will be longer than 2 years if it is in your case. Work experience mandatory for the studies part would not be counted. Furthermore, the work experience could also be before, during, or after undergraduate. You can submit it for a maximum of ten different positions you have worked for.
References
At the time of applying online, you will be asked to give the names of two referees for a professional and academic reference. Upon application acceptance, you will then be asked to upload two reference letters from the referees till 12:00 GMT (midday) on 22 February 2022. The referees should not be your relatives or family members. Only sincere and true reference is accepted. The referee that gives you the reference letter must tell:
- how long he know you?
- in what capacity does he know you, such as academic, professional, or volunteer
- when did he last have contact with you
- a brief overview about your skills in leadership and networking, personal intellectual and interpersonal qualities, and ability to complete the chosen study program in the UK
