Poland Work Permit Changes for 2021: Salary increase for international workers

Poland has updated the minimum salary levels for foreign nationals, EU ICT permit holders, and non-EU posted workers.

Over the past few years, Poland has become a hub for immigrants. This is why the government of Poland keeps on changing the rules and regulations for the immigration and visa streams. There is good news for those who are going to work in Poland as an international worker on a work permit. They will enjoy an increase in salary for up to 200 PLN. Changes for foreign nationals, EU ICT permit holders, and non-EU posted workers for new minimum salary levels were declared in November 2020.

Main features of salary and wages increase

  • Poland has updated its minimum wage levels for employment-based permits.
  • On January 1, 2021, the minimum wage for overseas nationals (work permit holders)  with local contracts will be 2,800 PLN (approx.760,55 USD).
  • The minimum wage was announced in November 2020 for non-EU workers and EU ICT license holders.
  • The minimum earnings restrict for a residence permit will continue to be the same in 2021
  • Employers have to make sure that their current and existing contracts comply with the new wages. The new changes apply to current permit holders, pending and new applications.

The minimum wage adjustment applies to employees assigned to C, D, and e-work permits, EU ICT permit holders, and overseas nationals with local agreements, residence permits, or Type-A work permits. The minimum wage threshold for residence permits applies to foreign candidates and their dependents.

Each government proposes a Social Dialogue Council (formed by trade union representatives-employers-government) to have a national minimum wage for the next year. ۔ The new national minimum wage is officially announced by September or November each year.

Changes for foreign nationals, EU ICT permit holders, and non-EU posted workers

The foreign nationals who are working via a local contract will see an uprise in their minimum income levels to 2800 PLN gross salary per month nationwide on 1-1-2021. The gross income levels for EU ICT permit holders and non-EU posted workers will change based on local municipality. Changes for foreign nationals, EU ICT permit holders, and non-EU posted workers for new minimum salary levels were declared in November 2020.

No Changes for residence permits

The minimum salary for residence permits will remain unchanged. The threshold will remain 701 PLN per person household and 528 PLN per person for multi-person households. The minimum earnings level applies across the country.
