How do the rounds of invitation work?
The Canadian immigration department:
- Selects the type of round to conduct.
- determines the number of candidates to invite.
- identifies the highest-ranking candidates in the pool who are eligible for the selected round type.
- invites these candidates to apply for permanent residence.
Types of Invitation Rounds
IRCC conducts various types of invitation rounds throughout the year:
1. General Rounds of Invitations
IRCC invites the highest-ranking candidates in the pool who are eligible for one of the three programs managed under Express Entry.
2. Program-Specific Rounds of Invitations
IRCC invites top-ranking candidates who are eligible for a specific Express Entry program.
Example: If the round targets the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP), only candidates eligible under the PNP will receive invitations.
3. Category-Based Rounds of Invitations
To meet specific economic objectives, the Minister may establish categories. IRCC then invites top-ranking candidates in the pool who meet the criteria for that category.
Note: Candidates must be eligible for one of the three Express Entry programs to be included in the pool.
