How do the rounds of invitation work?

The Canadian immigration department:

  1. Selects the type of round to conduct.
  2. determines the number of candidates to invite.
  3. identifies the highest-ranking candidates in the pool who are eligible for the selected round type.
  4. invites these candidates to apply for permanent residence.

Types of Invitation Rounds

IRCC conducts various types of invitation rounds throughout the year:

1. General Rounds of Invitations

IRCC invites the highest-ranking candidates in the pool who are eligible for one of the three programs managed under Express Entry.

2. Program-Specific Rounds of Invitations

IRCC invites top-ranking candidates who are eligible for a specific Express Entry program.

Example: If the round targets the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP), only candidates eligible under the PNP will receive invitations.

3. Category-Based Rounds of Invitations

To meet specific economic objectives, the Minister may establish categories. IRCC then invites top-ranking candidates in the pool who meet the criteria for that category.

Note: Candidates must be eligible for one of the three Express Entry programs to be included in the pool.
