Italy will give 10,000 extra work visas under the Decreto Flussi 2024 program to Indians. According to the Italian Government, 6,000 work visas will be under nonseasonal whereas 4,000 are seasonal categories. This is an opportunity for many Indian workers who want to work in Italy for seasonal or non-seasonal jobs. From 1 April 2024, the Partnership Agreement on mobility and migration will come into force.
The agreement also formalizes joint work on the opening of mobility paths between the two countries through the recruitment of qualified young Indians in the healthcare sector, an issue that will be discussed by an ad hoc working group. Cooperation between Italy and India in the fight against irregular migratory flows is also formalized. The agreement will remain in force for five years and, if it is not canceled by one of the two countries, it will be automatically renewed for another five years.
This quota is other than the availability of the total quota assigned for the eligible countries for the year 2024. The Italian government has set aside 151,000 as the total quota for this year. Indian workers will benefit from this quota as well as set aside 10,000 workers quota as well.
Italy and India joined hands last year in November when they decided to have a dedicated quota for Indians every year. This partnership is called the Migration and Mobility Program.
In 2023, this quota was 8,000, this year with an increase of two thousand it has reached 10,000, and in 2025 it will be 12,000 in total.
The Indian government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved the agreement with Italy on migration and mobility, signed last November 2 by Foreign Ministers Antonio Tajani and Subrahmanyam Jaishankar. This can be read in a press release issued at the end of the last meeting of the federal executive in New Delhi.
The agreement will facilitate contact between countries, promoting the mobility of students, qualified workers, entrepreneurs, and young professionals. This will also strengthen cooperation on issues related to irregular migratory flows.
This partnership also provides concessions for the granting of visas in cases of study, internship, and professional training opportunities. Indian students who wish, for example, can obtain a temporary residence permit in Italy for a period of up to twelve months after completing their education in the country.
Indians are also eligible under the Decreto Flussi 2024 general quota. This will allow up to 151,000 workers from eligible countries to apply for the work visa. The programs provide opportunities to apply for seasonal and non-seasonal jobs. Read here for more about the main Decreto Flussi 2024 program.
